CHIMPANZEE COMMUNITY MURAL
BALTIC

Chimpanzee Community (2020) by Jane Lee McCracken exhibits original Biro drawings by 120 children from Gateshead. Encouraged by the artist, these drawings document chimpanzees as the closest living relative to humans. Created during workshops at BALTIC in 2020 this mural is inspired by artworks exhibited in BALTIC's 2019/20 exhibition, Animalesque/Art Across Species and Beings and the chimpanzees of Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue:

EXHIBITION CATALOGUE 2019

In order to ensure that every participating child and adult drawings were displayed at the exhibition, Jane produced Exhibition Catalogue video that was shown on a showreel at Thought Foundation during the exhibition.

The purpose of the showreel was also to bring the drawings to life on a large scale, further highlighting the enormity of the extinction crisis and ensuring visitors were made aware of the diversity of species in peril including species many ingrained in the human psyche from childhood such as lions, elephants, giraffes, and tigers:

CHRISTINE EGAN-FOWLER INTERVIEW

Alongside Exhibition Video which was shown on a small screen during the exhibition, Christine Egan-Fowler, Artist Teacher RGS recorded a video discussing art in schools.

Christine talks eloquently about the need for art in schools, and explains what society stands to lose if art continues to feature less in the school curriculum:
